Greetings,

As I begin my 3L year, I'm excited to share with you some of the great work of Arizona Law's Student Bar Association. As SBA president, I'm eager for students to return to campus and to work with the amazing group of student leaders who have been elected to SBA. In this issue, you'll be introduced to the executive officers, but our organization is comprised of 28 students, chosen by their peers, who bring a diverse set of talents to SBA.

With just one year left at Arizona Law, I'm grateful for the experiences I've gained through student involvement -- SBA, Arizona Law Review, Law Women's Association, and all the academic pursuits that have connected me to my peers. It is everything I've learned from these experiences, in addition to the knowledge I've gained in the classroom, that I will take with me when I graduate, to spend two years clerking and then as an associate in the Phoenix office of Ballard Spahr.

Of all my experiences here, SBA is unique because it has given me the opportunity to get to know students in every year, and to talk to them about their own law school pursuits. I'm a Wildcat for Life, so I've never needed any convincing that the UA is a special place. But my time with SBA has shown me again and again just how impressive the students of Arizona Law are, and how fortunate I am to know them.

As you hear more this year about SBA's ongoing traditions, our events, and our advocacy efforts, I'm sure you'll agree that student leaders continue to be an example of everything that's great about the Arizona Law community.

Bear down,

Jillian Andrews ('17)

SBA Events in 2016 -2017

This year, SBA is looking forward to hosting events that are Arizona Law classics. Do you remember these student events from your time at Arizona Law?
  • Arizona Law Charity Gala -- Every year in April, SBA puts on our biggest and classiest party to raise money for the school's student clinics. The gala includes dinner, dancing, and a silent auction, usually at a Tucson area resort. All proceeds from the event go to fund the great work that Arizona Law students are doing for indigent and underrepresented clients in Southern Arizona.
  • Trivia Night -- Once a semester, students gather to show off their trivia skills in every category, and the only rules are: no phones and no talk about law school.
  • Welcome Back BBQ -- SBA welcomes its fellow students each year with a barbecue in Reid Park. This year, the event will be on September 16. We're looking forward to spending time with all the new 1Ls!
  • Halloween Carnival -- In the week leading up to Halloween, SBA focuses on our students and faculty with families, providing a family-friendly celebration at the college. Kids come in costume and love the games and treats provided by our students.
SBA has a long tradition of sponsoring events that inspire fun and camaraderie among students. Recognize anyone?
